St Andrews Ballina | Welcome
Party Prepare  'To all your wonderful staff that cared and looked after our mother, you extended her life and, at the same time gave her quality.'

Visiting Times

There are no stringent visiting times for residents at St Andrew’s. However, consideration should be given to the appropriateness of visiting times and it is recommended that visiting times be confined to the hours between 9.00am and 7.30pm.

After 5.00pm visitors are required to press the intercoms at either the Moon Street or Bentinck Street entrances to gain entry.

Bringing food to St Andrew's

St Andrew's has a food safety plan that provides us with a framework for handling food from the point of delivery and preparation to ingestion by our residents. This plan has been developed to minimise the risk of any food-borne illness, such as gastroenteritis. It also means that some foods are not recommended for the elderly and that is why they are not included on our menu.

Occasionally, staff are asked to reheat food or serve cold food brought in by relatives. Unfortunately, St Andrew's is not able to comply with this request because, as we were not involved with its preparation, transport and storage, we cannot assure its safety. We ask that relatives do not put staff into the position of having to refuse such requests.

A fact sheet issued by the Food Safety Information Council, aimed at relatives and friends who bring in food for their loved ones, is available on the following link. While the fact sheet provides some pointers on maintaining food safety, consideration must be given to the pros and cons of any decision which affects the care and well-being of our family members:

"Do you cook and bring food to an elderly relative or friend in an aged care facility?"
