Our Philosophy of Care
The philosophy of St Andrew’s is based on the concept that each resident is an individual, and is treated with the utmost respect so they can maintain their self-esteem and dignity.
Our aim is to minister to the physical, emotional and spiritual needs of our residents, enabling them to live their lives to the fullest as independently as possible in an atmosphere of love, peace and dignity.
To help us achieve this, we welcome relatives and friends and a supportive local community who can be enriched by the giving of their time and their energy to visit us and become involved in caring for our residents.
To fulfil the obligations implied in our philosophy, our staff must respect and support each other so that a harmonious team can care for our residents, whilst observing specific mandated requirements by government.
Additional Services
Respite Care
There are two respite beds at St Andrew’s Ballina – one high care in Dianella Square which is suitable for residents requiring high care needs and the second in the Special Care Unit catering for residents who suffer from dementia. Although this is a low care facility, the Special Care Unit has the capacity to care for high care residents suffering from dementia, and this is negotiable with the Director of Care Services.
Physiotherapy
St Andrew's contracts a Physiotherapist and a Physio Aide who provide services to the residents. The Physiotherapist is on site two days a week and is available on other days on an as-needed basis. In conjunction, the Physiotherapist and Physio Aide develop and coordinate exercise and physical activities for all residents requiring assistance.
Dietitian
A Dietitian service is used on an as-needed basis to review specific diets for residents.
Podiatry
A contract Podiatrist is available on a referral basis.
Pharmacy
Medications are supplied by a contract with the local pharmacy "Blooms the Chemist"
